The Music City 24

And that's what it is, a challenge!

This doesn't mean that you will write 24 songs in 24 hours all by yourself—though you can if that's how you want to play it.

The Music City 24 is an opportunity to gather, share, and collaborate over one weekend with 23 other songwriters from all over!

​

It sprang forth from the Nashville 24. The Nashville 24 was conceived and made real by James Tristan Redding, a Nashville songwriter with (apparently) too much time on his hands. James ran the 24 for five wild and glorious years, then he decided to either stop (because he came up with even more things to do) or pass the reins to a willing party or parties to keep it going under a new name (since he owns the old one).

Three participants in the previous 24s stepped up to take on the event because it's just too good and too valuable to stop. We've named it The Music City 24, and we're looking forward to spending an October weekend with 21 other songwriters sharing and growing together under one roof!

—The Way It Works—

Registration is open, but first, you have to express your interest by signing up in the form below. Everyone who signs up will receive instructions for how to complete the full registration, which includes a few questions about your experience and motivation to take on this challenge. Those who are accepted will receive information and instructions about how to pay the $24 participation fee, where to go, and what to bring.

—DON'T WORRY!—

You don't have to be a professional songwriter or submit a bunch of finished demos. What you DO need are genuine interest in meeting and collaborating with other songwriters you may or may not already know and a willingness to take on the challenge of writing—or co-writing—24 songs in the space of 24 hours straight.

—Welcome and Dinner!—

Participants gather to share a potluck on Friday evening where we introduce ourselves and get to know a little bit about one another. Then...

—Lights Out!—

The place goes dark from 9PM Friday to 2AM Saturday. From 2 to 3, you'll have the opportunity to wake up, have coffee, tea, whatever, eat something, maybe shower, and get ready to write.

—And Away We Go!—

Writing commences at 3AM on Saturday and continues until 3AM on Sunday. Then sleep and brunch and sharing your takeaways from the experience. You don't have to perform your songs, or even play scratch demos—but that would be great if you want to do it!

—Don't Forget the Prizes!—

Prizes will be awarded throughout the event: 1st to write 5 songs; 1st to write a meet-cute song, a breakup song, and a murder ballad; 1st to write three humorous songs; 1st to write a parody song; etc....(you get the idea). And of course, all participants who do manage to write or co-write at least 24 songs will receive a special prize and the true admiration of all!
